Any Particular Way to Play in...

Hey guys.

I come from an industrial/mood style metal, and I had a very particular bass playing style for all of our songs, consisting of alternating root beats and melodic areas.

I have been formulating a couple ideas for the music I would LIKE to play, perhaps a band to form, and I was wondering what sort of bass to expect to play in the following styles:

Ska/punk or Ska/funk- in the vein of No Doubt or Bosstones.

Celtic Ska/Punk in the vein of Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphy's.

Thanks.

P bass or MM would be great for either of those styles.

So would a J.

I'd say ska/funk is your best bet, given your location Keep it sorta local kine, yeah?

Wow, I guess I totally phrased that wrong, sorry.

I meant to say what sort of different WAY will I be playing? Not familiar with the differences in techniques (hence posting int he technique forum), and would like some pointers and tips.

We still on for this week Jon?

I'm thinking in Ska/punk or Ska/Funk you'd be playing a lot of root third fifths with dropping the first beat here and there. Probably some quarter or eighth note walking in there too.

Celtic Ska/Punk stuff I'd think would be root fifths with mainly quarter or eighth notes. (The guy from Flogging Molly does a ton of root fifths on the "Drunken Lullabies" album.)

I'm most likely way over simplifying and someone will probably correct me. I was in a ska band for a number of years. It's a lot of fun!
