Arpeggios on upper frets

Hi,

My bass teacher has me practicing "Chromatic Fantasy" (Jaco). Note that I said "practicing" - I have no illusions about matching Jaco’s performance; it’s just a good exercise. I'm having particular trouble with three arpeggios (hope the following tab is readable):

Fingering: (3) (1) (2) (3) (1) (2) (3) (1) (2)
G---------20--------19---------18-
D-----20---------19--------17-----
A--22---------20--------19--------
E----------------------------------
B----------------------------------

My bass is a Yamaha RBX765A with 34", 24 fret scale. The trouble is the lower cut-out isn't big enough (for this) and just about any fingering is going to be awkward. The best fingering I've found is the one shown on the tab above - kind of a check-mark pattern (that's also what my teacher recommends).

I want to play this as cleanly as possible (speed to come later, I hope :-) and barre chords just aren't working for me that high on the neck.

Does anyone here have any other suggestions or tips? Anything except "give up" would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
