Artificial harmonics -- how do you do it?

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't mean the 5(17) kind of artificial harmonics, but rather, say, 5(10) or 5(12). I can't even use my index finger-spot, pluck with the pinky thing I do normally. I just can't do it! I've had to resort to harmonic tapping, which, while sounding neat, is not always what I'm going for. Any tips?

I'm not really sure what you mean by those numbers - but I've always used my thumb to get artificial harmonics - like Jaco - and have never had any problems.

I've found 2 ways :

1) (like Jaco) use your thumb to stop the string an play with another finger than release immediately the thumb

2) (like Steve Bailey) Use you finger to stop the string (and release it) while the other finger pick

Nevermind! Found a solution. By VersozerO's description, I'm using the Steve Bailey method now.
