B-E-A-D slappin' question.

Since I'm tuned B-E-A-D should I still be slapping the A? Or should I always pop the bottom two strings?

Wasn't quite sure really, I feel more comfortable with poping the A but I can still slap it.

well you should be able to do either to any string actually...

but yes as a general rule, the A becomes one of the "pop" strings

Yeah, pop away, its fine, but the odd slap if you want to is fine too.

I do both to it, depending on the situation.

wait there are rules to what strings you can pop?
Do which ever sounds appropriate for the situation at hand.

Yeah man, don't ask other people which strings to pop or slap. You're the one who's playing the bass, right?

Lightbulb Hmmm...

My Dear Friends,

No rules. I slap and pop the high "G" on my bass - it's quite possible and works well, though you might have to adjust your technique a bit to make it sound as solid as the lower strings. I tend not to pop the low strings as I personally don't care for the sound, but to each his/her own.

Trust your ears.

Warmest regards,

Kurt

+1.

I will pluck the A string from time to time, but all depends on the bass line.
Also, I pluck it if I'm doing a fast triple (Down thumb, up thumb, pluck) and something even through my middle finger in for a 4th, 16th note pluck.
