Question bad technique?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I have recently joined a metal band at uni, it involves alot of fast semi quaver stuff and I have found my fingers get really tired quite quickly, we have to do a 20 minute gig in may and i want to get up to speed hahaha excuse the pun!

I have my strap on my bass quite high and i bend my hand over to pluck the strings, my teacher said this was a bad technique, does anyone know a good technique for doing fast stuff?

Cheers

Keep your (right .. assuming your right handed) hand straight in line with your forearm ... at least as much as you can while feeling natural and relaxed. Also try to get the same thing going for your left hand, keeping your wrist straight is very difficult in the lower positions while using 1 fret 1 finger ... but you should still attempt to do your best.

Good choice with the strap position, long thought out practices will improve your endurance. Yeh, you know, the good old practice practice practice thing.

Is it your left hand or right hand that's getting tired?
In either case, reduce tension where the joints bend, reduce your intake of alcohol and caffeine, and warm up before you play.

Peace

Also, you might want to check out the second sticky in the Tecnique Posts. A lot of great stuff in there for you.

Peace
