Bad technique? (mute slaps)

Sign in to disble this ad
Is it considered bad technique to do muted slaps by muting with your right hand palm and then slapping the string instead of using your fretting hand to mute the string? I'm right handed.

I know there's a slap thread, but I posted there months ago, and no has responded.

if it feels good, do it!
though there are basic starting points, i wouldn't get too hung up w/ "proper" right hand slap technique, as there isn't really formal cannon of slap technique. with slap, clean execution is the key. for example, there are a lot of guys who learn all the wooten tricks, but can't execute with precision, so it sounds bad.
if you like the sound of your palm muted slaps, keep it up.

Agreed, although I wouldn't neglect the left hand muted slapping because of it.

i agree... i am big on left hand work, especially for slap: anthony wellington style paridididles, open hammer plucks, buddah exercises, etc.
also, it is imperative that both hands execute together, otherwise it doesn't sound good.
