Band oriented technique/style

Hey all! I joined a band recently and they actually gave me free reign over the basslines, like i can play any style i want and they'll build the songs around it. I was shocked. But anyway, what does is something different, something that stands out (not slap)? Since i feel like the success of the band rests on me, what would make us sand out from the rest of the dribble? Most local bands are eith punk or wannabe nu-metal. Thanks in advance. BTW I really wasn't sure where to post this, so forgive me if i was wrong
