I am actually a pianist/keyboardist with a passion for funk and soul music. After years and years of listening to this music, how could one not fall in love with the bass? Anyway, I just got a bass of my own and would like to get into playing it. My music theory is rather solid, and since our band has sometimes lacked a bass player, I have had the pleasure of playing some nice bass lines with my left hand on the keyboard. Nothing compared to the real thing, of course.
So I guess what I'm looking for is a starting point (books, videos,...) that focuses on technique but sort of skips music theory. I've seen in the forums that there are several threads about different finger techniques, but I'm having a hard time choosing between them. There is a very nice resource on slapping technique, though, but I guess this will only become important for me further down the road.
Probably it would be best to get a teacher, but I cannot afford this at the moment... Do you know of good alternatives?
Any advice will appreciated, I'm very excited about all of this
