Anyone ever been to one of these?

They are holding one in my area next spring and though it is a little pricey, I think that I might give it a shot. Should be a good time at least.

Just wanted to know if these things actually help you learn better techniques and the overall experience.

My opinion.
The cost is probably reasonable maybe close to a loss leader.
If I had the time I would try his course.
I met Gerald Veasley about 25 years ago in Philadelphia.
He was very nice, very prepared, pleasant but business.
Back then he impressed me as a really bright, together fellow.

If he were an absolute unknown, with no recordings and no reputation, I would still expect he would put together a course that would be musically useful.

The purpose of such a course is to expose you to musical ideas and give you guidance and the inspiration to practice for the next year.

I went to a week long banjo workshop once. Learned as much or more after class in the jam sessions.

Went to a week-end banjo workshop once. All lecture and look at me do this. Did not learn a thing.

I think you will get as much or more from the other attendees. Price is right, go have fun.
