Doesn't it annoy you when people sterotype a bass player or just bass in particular to being easier than guitar?
Famous lines:
"Guitar has 6 strings, meaning it's harder."
"Guitarists play super fast solos, and bass players play simple whole notes; bass is so much easier."
I find myself stumbling across people like this all the time, and I usually give them a piece of my mind, but it's still annoying that people do think this way and personally rate your musicianship as low an inexperienced since you're a bass player. |

If this is a rant, there are others concerning misconceptions that non bassists have about bassists. Feel free to find and add to them or ask this thread to be moved.
Late addition: In Bass Humor and Gig Stories there is a thread that is stated "Stuff you hate to hear non-bassists say"
That is what the title is if I remember correctly.

Of course there are bassists who play very complex, and guitarists that play very easy, but generally I'll agree that guitar is harder, and I am 100% bass player here. Now that is NOT to say that playing bass is easy, but start a beginner on bass and give him six months of hard practicing, then give the same six months to a beginning guitarist and then see who is more advanced and who can play more at the end. All else being equal, the bass player will be able to play a lot more, and more proficiently than the budding guitarist. |

This topic, however, has been done numerous times. I think if you do a search, you will find more than you need. |

But it's not an easier instrument in general. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UERjJ...=alain%20caron
How do you do that on guitar? |

Be it guitarists who criticize, or friends who ask for suggestions on what to start playing. |
