Question Bass Training

Sign in to disble this ad
Greeting Talk Bass users. This is my first post here

I registered because I wanted to know your suggestions about what I should concentrate on improving during the three months I'm having as summer vacation. I've been playing Bass for a year, and the most complex thing I can manage to do at the time is a successful Bend.
What techniques/exercices do you think I should concentrate this summer? I was thinking of improving my speed at playing with fingers (I only play with fingers), since I like to play metal. However, I also like to play blues. Anything you suggest I should learn?

How about getting a teacher?

You can also check out the links in my sig. for lots of good TB info that may help you learn this summer.

Good luck.

Unfortunently, getting a teacher isn't an option.
Thanks for the link though, I'll definitely check them out!

i would say for metal, definitely work on finger strength, endurance, and dexterity

A good way to do this(something I do) is take a basic scale you're familiar with, and this is something you can do while you watch tv, and sit there and go up and down the scale several times, then start playing each note twice, then three times,4 times,5 times, etc etc. I usually get up to about 12 per note, and you'll really start to feel burn in your forearm. While doing this make sure you work on alternating finger patterns, maybe even 3. It's a great exercise for right hand technique.

+1 you should know all scales and modes like the back of your hand.

also, note consistency, like volume and attack, is very important.

+1000 for tv and tedious exercises. if it werent for the history channel, i would probably suck at bass. plus, now i know more than i ever wanted to know about world war II (this was before they got all obsessed with ufo crap and sasquatches).
