This one took me a long time to even get a close semblance of it:

I would add that if you can tap your fingering hand to the bass while you sing the lead you will probably pick it up pretty easy. The fretting hand part is easy. It is a quick way to figure out how hard you are going to have to work on it.

Sometimes I type out the lyrics and make a note as to which syllables the bass falls on. It is sometimes easier to visualize rather that just listening.

And assuming you can sing harmony then BGV are easier then lead. I think they are easier mostly because you don't have to remember the words. Basically you are just following the lead vocalist.

+1 Me too. Sometimes I'm playing a hard bass line, playing my bass midi pedals and singing lead vocals.

Practice, Practice, Practice. Timing is everything so practice with a drum machine if you can. That will keep you on track.

Good Luck!

I had always been the guitar player and a singer but in bands when I was the bassist and singer it took me a bit to get singing and doing bass lines at the same time.

What works for me the best is to get the rhythm and the bass line solid and just keep doing it till it becomes like a second nature then you add the vocals.
