Bass vs. acoustic guitar fingerpicking

Bass is my main instrument, but I play guitar as well. Lately, I've been in an acoustic guitar mood, and...

I keep my right hand nails short for bass - hate the clicking sound. But, short nails doesn't work for guitar fingerpicking. I see the following options:

- Don't fingerpick
- Live with the click when playing bass
- Use pick on bass
- Fingerpick with flesh
- Stick funny plastic bits on my fingers to fingerpick.

None really work with me. Anyone have a better idea?

There are many bassists who finger pick. It's often used as a technique to quickly play arpeggios.

Short nails don't work for guitar fingerpicking? I beg to differ! I am primarily a fingerstyle guitarist and have always used the tips of my fingers, no nail.

+1 I use finger tips. I like the warm, smooth sound it gives compared to nails/pick.

I fooled around with 5-string banjo for a while, using finger- and thumbpicks. Once you get used to them, they're fun--why not give 'em a shot?

i have a similar dillema, I have massive hands and my fingers are way to big and fat to finger pick a guitar with enough accuracy to be useful without my finger nails (and i dont have any)
