| I have to admit that I bought it a while back when it was still $40.
I was not expecting much . . . believe me, I was quite skeptical. I decided, "Hey, for the price of only a couple real lessons, if I pick up even a couple things from it, it will be worth it". I'm not one to easily fall for scams. I really did order it not expecting much but hoping there might be a couple things I could get out of it. I certainly was not expecting to become a bass master in just a couple weeks as the sales pitch might imply is possible.
If you want a deep understanding of theory, it won't help you. The "theory" part is a lot of modes, steps, and patterns.
I think, if you fully go through the program and don't move on until you get hold of everything presented up to that point, its probably not too bad if you are just wanting to learn how to groove. It did help me start to see the patterns to be able to play higher up the neck. I have at least gotten that much out of it.
He places MUCH emphasis on modes early on. I really got bogged down in that section, put it down and I didn't get moved on past that point. That section is presented as "Oh, yeah, learn these modes and then you'll be all set to build on them". Well, one (at least this one) doesn't just sit down for two hours one evening and "learn all the modes" that easily. I'm sure it would be good and helpful to know and understand all the modes inside and out, but learning all the different modes by name and being able to play them without thinking about them is not something you just whip through in a "get rich quick" kind of thing. I didn't want to move on until I got a handle on them.
I've picked it back up at that point to get the modes burned into my head, but It seems like every time I try, other life things come along that take me away from it for a while and I forget what I had. Skimming through the rest of the material, I think once I get past that point and on into the rest of the material, it will really help me with improvisation.
My overall personal opinion of it is that I think there is some helpful stuff in there and that when I get back into it it will help me with certain things . . . but as we all know it still will take a lot of hard work and not just something you can read and suddenly see the light that makes you understand all you need to know about playing the bass in three easy steps. I just haven't dedicated the time to it yet to be able to move on through it.
