Is string bending a bona fide technique on fretted bass?

I've been bending strings on bass (electric fretted or not & upright) since forever. If it works, use it! (IMHO)

Why not? Anything that gets you something that sounds good *is* good.

I never even considered the fact that you shouldn't do it. For me it is a major part of my style. I love to bend notes for vibrato.

in the upper range, it's good for blues style stuff. in the lower range, you can get those keyboard bass style bends. heck flea does it all the time.

I can't help myself when it comes to vibrato on bass. Listen to all those old Malmsteen albums(especialy Trilogy), his classical playing isn't just evident on guitar. Love it!!!
