Snap shot in time, that picture only shows a frame within movement.

A few years ago I wanted to paint my down stair rooms, my house is identical to my neighbours, so I asked him how many tins of paint he bought.

"Nine" came the reply....." I got four tins of emulation, three tins of under coat and two tins of gloss.

So of I went and bought the paint.

When I saw him a few days after I finished I question how he got on, because I ended up with, two tins of emulation, and one each of undercoat and gloss not used and left over.

He replied " yeah ...so did I "

Anyway just saying

Another snap shot in time - "This Player" happens to be Esperanza Spauding, so she has been playing this way for more than just a minute or two, not to mention the training she has had along the way.

Now I certainly don't promote a playing style that can be hazardous to one's health, but my point is that no particular style is the "right" style for everyone. If I ever managed to get my wrist into an angle such as hers, it would probably be the last note I played... Just sayin'...

It is not so much the action itself as such, that causes problems, but the amount of time per practice/gig session spent doing it, plus the over all time that the technique has been used. As I said earlier, that lady seems comparatively young, so she still has a lot of playing (and potential hand/wrist problems) ahead of her. No one can specifically state how long this will take to happen, but IMO if she continues to play with her wrist bent like that, the risk of developing problems later in life will increase dramatically.

Just sayin'....

I agree with you, and as I said, I definitely will NOT be guilty of contorting myself in that manner for the sake of a particular note or the tone of said note.

One thing is certain in Ms. Spaulding's case - time will tell.
