This is a great video for learning the double thump technique, which I think is very useful and cool, but unfortunately I don't have enough time nowadays to keep a consistent practice schedule. If it were that popular 14 years ago, I think I'd have a decent skill level at it right now.

Hope this helps.

so i watched a lesson video by victor wooten and im sure others saw it and i was wondering, he doesn't seem to be slapping it really hard but he still gets the sound of a nice slap and when i try it it's like my thumb is a wuss and won't get the right noise cause i wanna learn to do the down up thingy he does with my thumb, so far ive only had success with major scales that dont' involve the g string

I think it is very helpful if you have a low action. It means that you dont have to hit as hard.

My bass has rather high action, and i've only been able to get a decent slap sound from it just recently (in the last 5 days ).

My way;
Slap at the end of the neck (body end of course) and have yer treble higher than usual =p. then practise heaps to ger yer aim in =p

If youre really serious about developping your slap technique, you should look at the Slap It! book. I've had it for a week or so and its a really good tool for developping the slap/pop/hammer on/dead notes techniques. I've been using it 2-3 hours a day for a week and my technique has cleaned up tons, my movements are much more fluid, and I can finally pull off stuff I couldn't do before. It's really a neat little book with tons of great practice exercises.

That's my next purchase. I've seen a couple on Ebay, but never pulled the trigger. My fingerstyle is good enough, but my slapping is a mess. Time to clean it up.

it seems all of the really great slappers have killer finger style technique. for me to match the sound of my fingers i have to be thumping really soft or really digging in. a band my band recently played a show with had a slap / korn style bassist svt 8/10. {upon closer inspection i found that his thumb hit the strings very lightly} i always heard that a aggressive style was better {ala larry graham} but could never get it to work.
