Bicep gets sore after a while. any suggestions?

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys,

when im playing slap whilst sitting down, i can do it for a while, but soon enough, my bicep starts getting really sore and i have to give it a rest for a minute or two.

anyone else get this problem? anyway to fix it? is it my technique, or my arm placement thats causing these pains?

for those of you who've seen the "Flea Instructional DVD" i have my arm placed very similarly to his.

is it that my biceps not toned enough? not strong enough? needs to have more stamina?

thanks

Making the bicep stronger will help for sure.

Make sure when you slap it you're not putting your whole arm into it and tensing/locking the muscles in your hand/arm for a split second.

That's my habit and the split second sqeezes are what seem to build up and trap lactic acid around my bicep a 30 second break clears it.

I find it especially prevelant when sitting, as I sling bass lower than seating position so leave them there, which normally cut good circulation to the bicwp with the body, which is why I stand up lots when practicing too

You just need to relax your arm more when you play. Or just play standing up so you can have the bass slung lower, assuming you do slap the same way Flea (and myself ) do.

if you are going for the flea style (whackity whack), you'll
need to build endurance & strength for sure. start by warming
up the bicep---play easy for 2-3 minutes then stop for 5min.
this will help prevent a setbeck due to damage.
note that the tastiest slappers slap & thump very
lightley, using the amps power to bring out what i believe
to be a much fatter tone. you can play all night this way
as well...
