ok, so I finally busted my own butt enough after cracking open my Simandl books again for dbl bass, this evening I opened up my Charlie Parker Omnibook and went embarrassingly slowly through Scrapple.

well, all I have to say is DO IT TOO!!!

It's nice to reacquaint myself with 4 string(mainly been using 5s and 6s for a long time) electric as well as reacquaint myself with reading and playing between the 7th and 12th fret ON ALL STRINGS. Sheesh, I feel like such a dope sometimes, but I tell ya, it's a good thing and so worth the humiliation

and even at the slow tempos without rhythmic consideration just merely wanting to get the notes right, Bird's playing just screams of his genius and creativity. worth it no matter what style you play (or however fast or not you eventually get the tunes going)

The great thing about Charley parker is that his lines push you into fingerings you might have never otherwise discovered.

I am still discovering better fingerings to play the omnibook.

BTW, this Holiday season is "play and memorize melodies and chords to the 3 Real Books" time.

Good call! I got up early before work this morning and was working on p34-35 in Simandl I forget the position number at the moment but it's 4th finger on f# (g string). That's that same nebulous territory most of the bebop heads take place.

I was recently inspired to pull my Tony Oppenheimer (Slap it) book back out but I will pull the omni off the shelf for a month of so in the future...

Finding time to practice is probably the hardest thing to do!

Since there isn't enough time in the day, I try to set my alarm an hour early at least 3 times per week.
