IMO blistering from playing bass guitar means you are simply playing too damned hard.

It's not supposed to hurt, folks.
In my experience, this happens because some soundman or bandleader says "bass is too loud" and bass player says "I can't hear myself" and thus tries to compensate by overplaying.

Usually, I end up overplaying when I'm playing a solo so it will cut through. Of course, stylistically it's totally wrong...

I feel the need to second the super glue.
Just use it as a layer of skin. I've tried it many times and no problems yet.
