Hey all.

This may be beat to death. But w/e, i'm bored at work

I've been, prodomenantly, a techy-oriented punk bassist with roots (from playing cello) in classical. For years and years i hadn't expanded much on technique or anything.

2ish years ago i happened to stumble on a wonderful little website called TalkBass, and my mind was promptly blown.

I'd love to expand even more on technique, but i am limited to books and videos, as i don't have the time or $$$ (mainly the latter) to devote to lessons.

I'm a HUGEEE Motown fan as well as Gospel (though i'm not religous at all) so if there are any books that are good in these genres i'd be totally into it. I'd be interested in jazz as well, but it seems so dauntingly broad, i wouldn't know where to begin.

So yeah... let me know what's good!

Get this book if you like Motown. It has just notation but that shouldn't be a problem for a former cello player.

http://www.amazon.com/Standing-Shado...5413692&sr=1-1

There is also a CD that has the Funk Brothers mixed without the singing.

Cheers.

Sweet, thanks!! And yes... one of the most useful things i have retained is the ability to read music.

I have the DVD doccumentary, standing in the shadows of motown... cool to know they have companion books/cds!
