Well I suppose it depends on what you mean by boutique but mine is luterier built and cost enough to qualify so here goes. I pick, I finger, I slap, I thumb, I have been known to bow it, ebow it, use a broken Coke bottle, run the strings and neck along the side of my amp, and in general use anything that can be used to make a sound or make a statement.

As for the glass case...I keep my burbon and fine cigars in that. This business about what should be used to play and what shouldn't alway gets me crazy. If you bought it to play then just play, if you bought to look at...well it's your money so stare and enjoy...IMVHO.

No slap caused scratches or gouges on my basses Guess my fingernails aren't that hard or I don't slap enough heheh. I would not hesitate to use a pick on any of my basses, if I knew how

Anyone who scratches their bass with a pick isn't using it correctly most likely, I can't see at all how the pick would come in contact with the body.
