Breathing While Alternate Picking

I can't seem to be able to breathe while I alternate pick, I keep holding my breath when the tempo gets too fast. Are there any tips anyone has to help me?

Practice slowly first. Don't jump into the speedy parts right away. Get comfortable with what you're doing, and work up to your intended speed. It may take quite some time... don't rush it.

Sometimes people tend to stop breathing when they are concentrating on something intensely. Keep practicing until it starts to come naturally and you'll probably find that the breathing will kick back in...

You know, if you forget to breathe long enough, something will kick in and force you to breathe anyway, so don't worry so much about it unless you regularly pass out.

He's right... It's called the subconscious will to survive

I passed out with a bass strapped on once and lost a chunk of skin on the sharp corner of the bridge. Be careful man, it's a dangerous world out there.

The secret to longevity is---keep breathing. LOL.

Hey, no worries, pal, you'll survive. I do what you're talking about sometimes at various activities:

When focusing my telescope.
When lining up a board under the cut-off saw.
When maneuvering a tricky curve on my motorcycle.
When watching girls with those low-cut jeans dance at a gig.

Haven't passed out yet.

Dude, passing out while playing bass is totally metal.

You might want to practice breating while playing slower and then work your way up. Just don't breathe faster when you play faster.

Try puffing out your cheeks while you're doing it.

if you stop breathing it means you are concentrating too hard on the other activity. you need to practice at slower more relaxed tempos and little by little increase the tempo during your practice time - making sure that you are continuing to breathe and remain relaxed. practice and self awareness and progressive training...
