calcium deposit in my left (fretting hand) wrist...related to playing?

I noticed a couple of months ago that out of what seems like nowhere, I have a hard, painless lump right where my hand meets my wrist, towards my thumb. I feel like it wasn't there until I started playing bass for hours a day. My boss said it's a calcium deposit. Does anyone else have this? Is it due to playing bass? I look in the mirror when I practice. Not because I'm vain, ha ha, just to make sure I have good technique. I think I do, and like I said, there is no pain. It's just...a bump. The only other thing I can think of is that I might have sprained that wrist skateboarding or snowboarding a while back and not even known it, and maybe now there's a bone chip that floated in there due to playing so often? But I dunno. I'd post a photo but it's really hard to tell unless you see it in person. I don't have health insurance and I'm not even worried anyway, I'm just kinda curious. By the way, my calcium deposit's name is Cal.

p.s. The Internet is so helpful. And I quote:

"A ganglian cyst forms on the joints and can be broken up by being hit with a book or something. A calcium deposit however should not be hit with a book. A calcium deposit will show up in an x-ray."

uts book away:

The bottom line is that you dont know for certain what this lump is. Unless your boss is a doctor, I'd advise you to get it checked out my a medical expert. Opinions given here, while well meaning, are never going to diagnose your problem, as no one here is qualified to do so.

Well, obviously. I just thought someone here might have something similar, hence why I posted. I don't have medical insurance, I guess it's gonna have to wait. It doesn't hurt, so, whatever. I promise I won't throw any books at it.

It's _much_ more likely to be a ganglion (cyst) than calcification.

But don't hit it with a book... :-)

I've had something like you describe before but it was on the joint between my middle finger and palm. I never went to the doctor because I didn't have any pain and it went away on its own. The best thing would be to see a doctor though just to rule out anything more serious.

I was recently declined for Medicaid if that's any indication of life these days...but, yeah, I'll do that sometime...when I have the money...I'm freelance, insurance options are few and far!
