| You don't say if you're playing with a band or practising a lot.
My guess is that you're noticing this when practising solo, because if you can notice a difference in tone between calloused and non-calloused fingers when playing along with a drummer and two Marshall half stacks then you are blessed with a truly golden ear.
If it's a real problem to you, then the EQ on your bass or amp should be able to compensate for the sharper attack of harder fingers (you may then find your ring finger sounds 'wooly' in comparison).
But don't do anything to soften or remove those callouses, they'll save you from a lot of pain. I did a 6 hour rehearsal with a band yesterday - playing almost constantly - and, even with well developed callouses, my right hand fingertips are burning this morning. Wear them with pride, you'll need them.
