Im so mad right now, I wanna just slam my bass on the ground. I have to learn Hey Man nice shot by Wed, but I lose rhythm on the fast part regularly. I have learned way more difficult licks then 0 10 12, 0 10, 9....its ridiculous. Im stuck on this elementary crap!!

Anyway, Im just venting!

The simplest stuff is always the toughest. Good Luck.

Start slow, and slowly pick up speed. Works every time.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the rhythm for that part is straight eighths. You may already realize this, but playing that 0 10 12 0 9 10 thing is hard to do without creating a triplet feel. As long as you realize that, you can consciously work against it and retain the straight eighth feel.

To me it sounds like they're playing in drop D tuning which makes it easy to just to open and hammer the notes. They also start on the open string then hammer the notes so you're always hitting the open D first. It's in 4/4 time but the bass part has a 3/4 feel, at least what I'm hearing. Just relax, put the bass down, go get something to drink, comeback in 15-20 minutes and try again.

Slow it down first. Play with a metranome and gradually work up to speed. If you hit a plateau, slow back down until you can play it perfectly.

It's hugely important to play that song with an open low D string. So much easier to play and finger positioning is just simpler. Follow the slow playing suggestions! Once you have memorized hand positions and notes, then you can focus on the beat.

The other trick I use is to figure out what the drummmer is doing and try to see if your notes are following the kick, snare or cymbals. Some notes tend to line up with the drums and some don't. Get the easy notes first, then figure out how to time the other ones. Getting a little piece here and there goes a long way.
