Change the bass for my technique, or my technique for the bass?

I posted this question over in basses, but the question deals equally with technique, so I thought I'd post a link to it here.

I'd say adjust yourself to the bass. I say this because I don't think your technique should exactly change from bass to bass.

Sure you'll have to compensate for high or low action and things like that, but your technique should generally stay the same.

Or you can learn the floating thumb technique and then you'd have nothing to worry about on any bass you play.

Changing technique is not fun. I've been playing for 4 years now and just started to drastically alter my technique to a point that I'm essentially learning from scratch. Not fun, but I realized it was something I had to do to get to a level that I am happy with. If you do decide to work on incorporating the floating thumb however, I'd think you'd get used to it pretty quickly.

Both actually according to what goals you have for your technique. What kind of bass is it?
