changing technique

I was wonder what your opinion is on changing technique. I have been playing for a relatively short period of time(2.5 years). In terms of slap i have a sloppy technique very similar to Flea's. Should I try changing to vic's going through the string method because i think it sounds better.

In fingerstyle I'm trying to incorporate 3 fingers. Even though 2 for the most part for me is more consistent.

You never stop changing technique as long as you are playing. I am always revamping my technique to get a cleaner sound and an easier way to play things. For example, recently I just switched from one finger per fret in first position to 124 because it puts less strain on my wrist. I used to slap more like flea (who has gotten a lot cleaner in recent years I might add) to the slapping through the string, I did this because it made my playing sound cleaner. The only reason that you should revamp a technique is to make something easier (aka proper), or to get your playing cleaner, but it is something that you should constantly be thinking about.
