Ok here's my deal. I live in the SW corner of Michigan. If there were someone in South Bend or Kalamazoo it would be much easier but I'm not sure there is. So I'm thinking Chicago - preferably towards the East Side given my location - but I'm looking for the right person so I'll drive longer if necessary.
I don't know how to describe my level. High intermediate perhaps. Local musicians I play with would describe me as better than that. In terms of playing technique - I wouldn't have much trouble doing a good job of "Limelight" or "Tom Sawyer" or RCHP's "Higher Ground", but I would struggle with (but could learn if I really put energy into it) "YYZ", or "Stone Cold Bush". That probably gives you an idea.
I'm mostly interested in advancing my knowledge of music theory so as I get older I can migrate from playing the classic rock that I've played most of my life, to jazz/blues etc. Can't do that without really good knowledge of music theory. I'm also interested in advancing my slap technique.
Given the distance - and that I work full time doing something much different than music - I'm thinking longer, less frequent lessons. Probably once every 3 or 4 weeks.
Any recos? I did a member search but quite honestly all you get is a long list of names with no idea who is right.
