 im new to playing bass so sorry if this extreme newbie question but wat is flea doing in between every like time he plays a chord he does sumting like 4 times, on tabs it shows it as x's in rows of four?
please help  |

In all fairness, it really does sound like Flea is strumming those chords with a pick.
Also, I think I read in a BP around the time that album came out that he did in fact use a pick on that track. I could be mistaken though. |

he uses a pick for venice queen aswell |

At least I think that's how the story goes.

He is also a perfectly competent finger style player not just slap and pop. And yes he was a trumpet player early in life, listen to Live At Hyde Park and he takes a trumpet solo.

He also used a pic on the Zephyr song i believe. Just shows he can do pick, slap and finger, what else is there?
I hope i hear about this new album soon! Meant to be going back to some of there earlier stlyes of funk, whether were talking uplift mofo i don't know, don't think so or maybe the BSSM era? All i know is its release date is early next year (not offical and touring late next year, can't wait!!
