I hate clackiness, and the Tortex picks have no clack whatsoever. And the flexibility means smooth playability.
I remember reading somewhere in one of these "what picks do you use" threads that there was a bass teacher somewhere who recommended using a thin pick for bass and a thick pick for a guitar. Thin picks for thick strings and thick picks for thin strings. That's what I like to do. My guitar pick is a stainless steel pick my daughter gave me for Christmas. Plays like a dream!

| | | | Everyone's has their own opinion on what feels right and sounds good. For me I have found the Dunlop Tortex 88's to be just right. When I play with a pick I have a fairly aggressive style so if I tried the nylon's or anything in the 70's they just flexed a bit too much and if I went heavier it started to feel like playing with a bottle cap or something and the metal ice pix though cool always had me worried about gouging my bass. I would suggest getting a range of picks from .5-1.5 of different materials and see what works for you... |

But the best pick I ever had was one of Trujillo`s I found after a Metallica show. Don`t know what it was - wish I did. I didn`t even know he ever used a pick, but it was waaay too heavy to use on guitar.

| | | | I use Dunlop Gator Grip 1.5mm, and like a previous posted said, the grip on them is fantastic. It doesn't bend or flop like thinner picks, which I think is great because there's no excess racket. It also gives a fuller sound because it hits the strings harder. No clacking, or at least I've never had to deal with that. Love those picks, been using them for years, and are probably going to use them exclusively for a while.

Love the size.
And you can use all the corners so it'll keep good for a long time.

Also I want to be able to slam the strings hard sometimes without the pick giving. Those traits combined with the beveled edge for lack of click turned me on to 1.2mm (Green) Gator Grips. When playing with a pick, to me it's hard to beat that woofy attack of those picks.

If I want a heavier attack, I actually do love those thick felt picks. They give me a nice raw sound with roundwounds on a semi-hollow bodied bass, and a solid feel on flats.
