Chris Squire sound?

Is it remotely possible to get that aggressive Chris Squire tone without a pick? If not, what picks does he use? I've heard everything from felt picks to nylon.

I think I remember reading that he holds his pick so that just a bit is exposed, so when he plays the pick AND his thumb hit the string.
