At :30 he played a note and with his plucking hand bent the strings behind the nut, making them all go sharp.

At :38 he either played extremely close to the bridge, or played pinch harmonics with his thumb as the contact point. Jaco does that too.

Does anyone knows what tuning he uses on his guitar?

He probably tunes just like a regular six string, B E A D G C. Or five string, I can't tell. B E A D G.

Pinch/artificial harmonics are when you have a contact point the equivalent of of 24 frets up (Or in this case, maybe 36). You know the squeel that guitars do? That's a pinch harmonic. Play a first fret Ab on your G string, and tap with your finger just a bit closer to your bridge than where your twenty fourth fret may or may not be. If you play with it a bit, you should be able to get a note two octaves above your Ab. That's a pinch harmonic.

Natural harmonics are where you lay your finger on top of the string at certain points along the neck. 5, 7, 12, a bit closer to the nut than your fourth, etc. You'll find them.

First one is definitely a behind the nut bend. Interesting volume swell he got on it though, volume pedal, maybe?

Yeah, I've seen him do that one before, he's got a volume pedal. The second trick he does, the artificial harmonics is a favorite of mine, throwing an artificial harmonic lick at the harmonized 3rd (5th note in the harmonic series, I think) sounds really sweet on the lower strings.

One more thing about harmonics... I was watching a Jaco video and it was a cool way of doing artificial harmonics that I've added to my arsenal.

You basically fret fully on any fret, and then use your thumb as a 1/2 way mark between the fretted fret and bridge and then pluck wtih you index finger behind it. After a while, you'll get used to it and be able to play any note you want doing this. Also, you can get other harmonics at this same spot using the same technique... Think of fretting and "harmonic-ing" () the middle the same as doing a real harmonic on the 12th fret. (Same note as the open string, so it'd be the same note as your fretted finger is pressing.

Finding other locations will get different notes from the same fretting location.

Hope someone finds this interesting. lol.

Check out some Sheehan solos... He is truly a master of the pinch harmonic technique on bass... I play them basically the same way...

fret a note with left hand... place the knuckle of my right hand thumb on the same string near pickups, and with the fingernail of my right hand middle finger, pick the string... keeping my thumb on it the whole time....If you spend time mapping your bass out, basically creating visual points that would be where a fret would be if you had 48 frets..lol
You will soon realize that if your left hand is at one location then moving/matching your right hand, with the thumb middle pluck techinique described above, you will achieve the pinch harmonics ..

Watch some Steve Bailey videos he has another cool way of doing harmonics...similar to Eric Johnsons way.
