Cut Right Middle Fingertip--Suggestions?

Sign in to disble this ad
The air here must be especially dry or something, as I seem to have split the skin right on the tip of my right middle finger. No blood or anything, but it hurts a lot to play bass.

Any suggestions? I could get some picks and practice pickstyle I suppose. Or superglue. Or gut it out, no pain no gain.

What would you do? This may take a while to heal.

First check if it is not psoriasis, so you can act against it if it happens to be.

Then... I heard electrical tape over a small bandage will get you an ok tone. Try out to find what protection can keep you playing while it heals. I think those latex mini-condoms you need to use to keep cooking when you cut yourself in a kitchen might work well.

But you certainly won't cut all the pain away.

Superglue is now used all the time in surgery. Scars far less than stitches.

You could develop some pick style. But Using your index and ring isnt actually much different from index and middle. then again, that isnt giving you anything usable for later on. So pick maybe?

I agree with Dolphin that having some pick style would be good. Although I'm a hypocrite in that department.
Use the superglue, I tried electrical tape when I had callous issues and had bad "drag" issues when the tape contacted the string. The glue slides muuuuuuuuuch better.

I almost always use superglue for both closing cuts and re-attaching the fingernail..

You must like that. It's far more powerful than sniffing glue fumes straight in the soft tissues!
Just kidding, it's because I found that method kinda harsh.

there is a product on the market called Nu-Skin ... that would seal it ... its fancy super glue ... I would use white 'hockey tape' for all that kind of stuff too ... about same texture as your skin

If its noting serious, I say keep playing anyway. And if it bleeds, it's all the better, all my basses are baptised with my blood.

You're plucking hand is your right hand?

Can you play using your index and ring fingers for awhile until you heal up?

Liquid bandaid. It works best for the fingertip. I just had a similar problem and this was the ticket.

I put super glue on it, and am amazed. It doesn't even hurt anymore. The glue is harder than the skin, so I'm getting a tickier sound from that finger.

The hallucinations are also starting to lessen. The number of Care Bears in my living room is fewer than before.

I put superglue on it, let it dry, then get some fine grit sand paper and polish it to a smooth finish, you'd think it was your own finger!

I use superglue also, but I found out the real solution is a whole house humidifier, and drink lots of water.
