Could any body tell me some songs that use a good amount of dead notes in the bassline?
I've been wanting to pick up on this technique some, and need some examples and also stuff to play with
Also, any songs with good blues? |

The clip doesn't get to the part you need to hear; but as a bassist, you should own this CD anyhow.

Not much of a tune, just a little rock-fusion riff but is up tempo and features Clarke's awesome dead note technique. Also features Steve Gadd and David Sancious

Lots of slap ghost notes in Stanley Clarke's Silly Putty on a RTF album. Lots of pop ghost notes on the G string on Louis Johnson/ Brothers Johnson tunes. Happy Ghost/dead notin'! |

Try his excellent CD with guitarist David Cullen called "Equilibre'" - specifically the tunes "Snappin on Ten", "Tie-Dyed and Wide-Eyed" and "Homestyle"; also give a listen to "Shuffle In" and "Gizmo" on the same CD...

Here's a link to the Video Progressions site: Fingerstyle Funk
As for the technique, you are basically damping with your fretting hand and playing a note as normal with your right. Easy idea, but it takes some practice and some rhythm to integrate properly. |

Just a little bass/tap dancing duet piece to end the "If this bass could only talk" album, but it features a lot of dead notes and really helped me to perfect my technique for getting them to sound "right". |
