Check out Between The Buried And Me, none of their songs have ridiculous lyrics about death, they also don't have long hair, and don't dress in all black, or really fall into any metal stereotype, they have great compositions, and are also able to switch from being incredibly heavy to very soft and melodic in a flash. definately my favourite metal band. http://youtube.com/watch?v=KFze65yQhgY | Is it still Death Metal if it's not about death?

admittedly a lot of the genre does focus on the morbid but it is not exclusive. |

I don't think genres are really based on their lyrics. death metal has a certain feel to it, that sets it aside into it's own genre. |

I usually play with two, and get great speed with them. but I do use 3 here and there if I need a bit of a boost for fast triplets or to add rolls in for some rhythmic affect. |

I've gotten a few requests for some expanded info and other stuff so here's what: Some time in the next few weeks I'm gonna get together with Eric Langlois from CRYPTOPSY and do another in-depth post with his collaboration, most likely regarding speed building exercises and his (*amazing*) input on rapid switching between styles such as 3-finger plucking and slapping on the fly.....
Thanks again, and special thanks to El-Bob

Though I'm allegedly "retired". It'll be good to get the blood flowing again after years of classic rock and blues. Not that there's anything wrong with that. |

I'm interested to hear what tempos some of you guys are achieving
