Developing speed

I play with fingers (two of them) and I can play 16th notes at 144bpm and I can gallop at 168bpm. That is the fastest I can do and I can do it hardly and not for long time. At that speed I also start hitting strings softer. I want to develop right hand speed so I'm asking do you have some good exercises or ways to improve speed of the right hand.

set your metronome on a bit slower than 144bpm and play your 16th notes for 5 mins. gradually you will become more accurate and then you can increase the speed. you mentionned that you touch becomes lighter the faster you play, thats normal because speed in a way is nothing else than the economy of movement. digging in at high speeds is just impossible.

also, practice at slow and very slow speeds. this helps build technique and arm strength. it's a lot harder, trust me.

Practice muting the string with the other finger as fast as you can. The faster your finger is back into position, the faster it is ready to play.
