Try this simple four measure, 16th note exercise:
1st, 1 measure of 16th notes ( alternating fingers ) accenting ONE in each group of four 16th's.
2nd, move the accent over to the SECOND 16th note in each group of four 16ths,
3rd, move the accent to the THIRD 16th note in each group of four 16ths.
4th, move the accent over to the FOURTH 16th note in each group of four then cycle back around to the top and repeat. TAKE IT SLOW! Pay VERY close attention to each and every note, every accent. It's all in the details when it comes to evening out your strokes. Practicing fast and sloppy only makes you better at being fast and sloppy. Speed and even-ness starts slowly and builds through careful attention to detail and repetition. This issue can be caused by a couple of things. one finger being stronger than the other or just having more mass ( which our middle finger does ). Happy playing!

And end up sounding like a machine? (possibly)

It's those little flaws and kinks and bits of personality in our playing that make us human and make us groove, imo
