A different way to palm mute

I've been experimenting recently with string muting to try to replicate the upright sound on my P-Bass. I tried stuffing the bridge with foam, but all that did was choke off the notes. I couldn't palm mute very effectively so I came up with an idea. Combining the two techniques I cut myself a piece of thin foam big enough to cover the strings and hang over the bridge cover, and put the edge of my hand over it and muted the strings. And I found it worked very well. I maintained good control over the muting yet didn't choke off the notes. Sounded really good on the slow Christmas songs we're playing in church this Thursday.
