I do it all the time, but ive been clocking more hours recently and i find that is stress my right wrist due to the angle it is bent. Ive tried lifting my elbow up to make my wrist more straight, but it feels wierd cause its hard to keep the bass balanced. tips pls

Sometimes I'll rest my arm gently on the body, but otherwise, no. I just have my thumb anchored on a pickup or thumbrest all the time.

(And I do all of my playing seated.)

The best tip I can give you is to play standing up. While I do occasionally sit or even lounge on my bed and play, I find that either of those positions are too "closed" and the result is a lack of fluidity, not to mention the wrist problems you mention.

When I'm playing seriously, it's always while standing up. The only parts of my arms that touch the bass are my right thumb, index and middle finger and my left palm, thumb and fingertips. Both elbows are out; the right moreso than the left (I'm a righty).
