Do you stand while practicing bass alone?

I watch a lot of bass lessons on youtube, and the guys are all seated while teaching.

I have created my bass lines sitting down for songs, and then at band practice, I can't reproduce them while standing!

I can't see the fretboard very well when I stand!

I practice both ways, but it really depends on what I'm practicing. If I'm just fingering through a song or something then I'm not against just chilling on the floor or something, but when I'm really practicing I like to stand up because that's how I really play.

I consciously try to practice 50/50. I know that it's impractical to stand all the time but I don't want to get too used to the sitting position.

My body just doesn't have the right proportions to sit and play at the same height as when i stand and play.

I have always been a bedroom player, and sat. Just recently, I have decided to strike out and get with a band. So now I`m having to relearn how to play while standing lol. It`s not necessarily harder, just different. So ALL my practice time now is standing.

When I'm just starting to learn the song I sit so that I can restart the song/check tabs quicker. Once I'm confident I stand up so I can change how my fretting hand feels.

I try to practice standing up first then I just sit down or lean on the wall when I get tired.

place your bass to replicate the same position sitting down or standing up.

I ajust my strap to place the bass exactly at the same place as when I'm playing sitting down. I don,t have any problem anymore

The length I have my strap is far more comfortable than where my bass is in a seated position. I play better standing so I usually practice standing.

I thought about this... I might try a tall bar stool.

Thanks everybody.

I was thinking I need to stand near a tall counter so I can use my laptop /metronome, and have a place for my lyric/chord sheets, and my fret board diagram.

maybe partially sitting/leaning on a tall barstool will work. I'll try these ideas tomorrow. thanks!

I sit when I'm learning a song, but once I have it I practice standing up since I will almost certainly be required to perform it that way.

I'm almost always standing. Occasionally if I'm doing something in front of my computer (studybass.com) or something like that, but not often. I also use a music stand pretty heavily too so that helps in that

I lean my butt on a bar stool. After a long day at work my feet & legs are to sore to just stand.

I bought a music stand so I can stand and read sheet music. I also have any controls for playing music there when I play along. I did it because I had the same problem many have expressed- it is difficult to play standing up if you do all your practicing sitting.

I used to sit all the time when I played but just recently I've been standing and it's really made a difference for me. I feel a lot more comfortable fingering when I standing and I tend to focus more. Only time I sit now is if I'm learning some new stuff that I need to take my time with.

when I practice seated, I play with the bass between my legs and my left foot higher like a classical guitar stance. When I play standing my bass is in pretty much the same position. The classical guitar position is also great for good hand placement. I used to have tendonitis problems when I first started until I read up on classical guitar finger stretching and playing position in a very old book. I've played that way ever since and never experienced any more hand pain.

It's also important ( for me at least ) to have a wide and stable strap so that my bass fits me securely and I'm not trying to "hold" my bass with my hands while playing it.

Ps. I'm an exbodybuilder with a large chest... I can see the fretboard maybe try a different strap position.
Best of luck.
