Its probably been done before, but ima ressurect it.

Do you wash your hands before playing your bass?

I dont bother with my electric because I want it to get really worn in and get dirrrrty. also, when i play a gig i sweat all over it which isnt really cleaning it.

as for my upright (which i got 2 days ago), i try to keep my hands somewhat clean because its a new (expensive!) instrument.

I don't know why, but I have an obsession with cleaning my hands when I play. I wash my hands before I take my bass out of its case. Then before we play I will wash my hands again. And I wash like a surgeon washing his hands. The thing that really bugs me is that I am not that anal about washing my hands any other time.

Yes and yes. Sucks when you play a nasty bar that has no sink in either of the bathrooms! Thats usually when I walk behind the bar and ask if I can use the bar sink lol.

It's much easier to get grime off of a DB fingerboard than a fretted electric.

+1 I'm with you.

I wash my hands fairly frequently every day as I handle all sorts of stuff that has passed through other's hands. Always before I get the bass out. It still gets grungy after a while but not as quickly as if I didn't wash each time.

Yeah, I hate playing if my hands or fingers are even remotely sticky. They gotta be clean before I pick up my bass!

+1 I'm paranoid about dirty, greasy hands, and I make sure others wash before touching my gear too.

Aside from the fact that we live in a world where a lot of people do not wash their hands (i.e. GERMS), I wash before I play the bass.....it feels better than sticky grimmey hands....I also wash after going anywhere public......after all....it is a sick world. John

I wash my hands before practicing but never right before a gig unless my hands are sticky or something. I play finger style so getting my hands wet leave them tender.

I find my skin gets very soft when I wash them. Even thoroughly drying them still leaves the skin soft making it uncomfortable to play. The worst is when I have a shower and play straight after

I wash 'em after load-in and before taking it out of the case. Then I wash between every set.

As well as not wanting to crud up my gear - for me strangely or not I believe I have better feel with clean hands.

No. Period. Unless I just ate chicken and they're really greasy. Otherwise, I don't care.
