The material matters a lot: I like the brass slapring much better than the copper or stainless steel. Tungsten sounds worth a try, but the design would have to cover my thumbs first (outermost) joint. I don't know that a standard ring could do that. The slapring sleeve covers more than I need covered, but it's very stable and easy to slip on and slip off. That's one reason I like it better than doing some kind of tape-on deal.

No! You need two things, a metronome and lots of practice.

A slapring wont help you here.

Generally, IMO, the slapring is just another excuse for people trying to take a short cut, instead of doing the hard graft of practicing. You still need good technique to slap, and if you have it, then you dont need the slapring.

Cool--it's rare to meet someone who has actually used the slapring so that they can arrive at an opinion based on real life experience. Did you find that the stainless steel one's sound and playability differed from the brass one's? Can you describe your experience?

Pretty soon they're going to come out with little paddies for your fingers so they don't blister when you play fingerstyle.

Nut up or shut up!

The key is having the bass setup relatively low so that your slap attack is not overwhelemd by your finger attack, adn to play a bit lighter on the finger stuff , using more amp ( headroom) and a lighter touch. Then your slap lines will stand right out! ANd if you dont have a drum set to play with, practice beats, as slappin' is drummin' at times and the timing is KEY. Go slow until you can do it. Real slow.

Dude, buy quality. You sure dont want no girl for $50. You may end paying forever!

FUNK IT UP!!!

So that's it - a bass guitar engagement ring?
