I've always been interested in attempting to learn asian sounding bass lines but have never found a proper resource that shows how. Anyone got any pointers?

Well, Asia's pretty big ... Chinese music is different than Indian or Arabic...are you looking for anything more specific?

A lot of world music evolved without a bass tradition, so it has no "typical" bass lines. Modernized world music from such cultures tends to draw the bass rhythms from the traditional percussion rhythms, while keeping the supporting notes rather basic roots and fifths ect.

For typical scales of various Asian cultures, try wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentatonic_scale is a good start

Thanks for that Mambo.
Perhaps this link will help a little.
This is Kai Eckhardt talking about his time in Turkey.
When I watch him play something that sound Turkish I realize how "Western" my playing is and realize how much I would like to break out of that box.
Here's the link and he shows the comparision at about 1:50

The first link is to the Turkish music web site a great resource

http://www.turkishmusic.org/

The second link is about the Oud, a small sting instrument, look though this link there are theory pages about turkish music and its use.

http://www.oud.eclipse.co.uk/index.html

and the third one is to African bass players, i know its not Eastern but it is a good resource to find and hear bass being used in a different colour.

Here's a great resource for Arabic scales, and an understanding of how Arabic maqamat works. http://www.maqamworld.com/
The Maqam Index on the side of the page is a list of different scale families. Their scales are organized based on the trichords and tetrachords they contain.
