Its hard to tell. In the live videos it doesnt look like hes slapping, but thats what it sounds like.

haha, many years ago after BSSM first came out, I auditioned for a top 40 cover band and that was one of the songs I played with them. Afterward the band leader says to me "That sounded pretty good even tho you didn't slap it."
I thought I nailed the audition in general but I ended up not getting the job. I always suspected the reason was because I didn't slap that bass part.
