As alot of bass players do, I'll play both pick and finger style. I prefer pick, and I'm somewhat decent at both. Lately I've been thinking of using a pick, while also playing fingerstyle with my middle, ring, and pinky finger at the same time. It sounds horrible now, but with practice I think it could sound awesome and come in handy. Has anyone else ever tried this, or am I the first?

im sure someone has tried it on bass, pick isnt my thing, so ill leave that one alone, but i know that that is a standard guitar method...i dont remember the guys name but a lot of older blues and country guitarists do that, as well as some newer ones(derek trucks???)
i think the guys name was of the sor or merle or something like that...or it could be entirely different for all i know

On guitar, it's called hybrid picking. There's a Buckethead guitar lesson video on YouTube where he does some sick shred with the hybrid technique.
