Double thumping?

I heard about this in another discussion thread ("Things I wish...").
What the heck is it? I've been playing since 1982, never heard of it.

It's when you slap down with the thumb, and then up with the thumb. It's more or less using your thumb as a pick for fast slap lines.

Allows a ton of speed for melodic lines. Marcus Miller and Alain Caron are two of the other masters... I've only heard a handful of other players do it with any sort of quality. However, every single one of my intermediate students does it poorly
