Double Thumping Pain

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a perpendicular slapper (well 35° actually) but from this I guess you gather I'm the kind of slapper that hits the string with my thumb and allows it to bounce off.... (As opposed to Larry Graham style slap where you bring your thump down through string.)

Anyway I'm beginning to really lay down my double thumping now but the problem i'm get at the moment is i'm being held back by pain

I'm getting pain on the side of my thumb next to the nail. Feels like a blister is boiling up. I'm guessing this is just because that part of my thumb is unused compared to rest but can you guys clarify for me that this is not just impropper technique or something.

It's probably OK. You have to wear blisters on the tips of your fingers before they turn into calluses. Same thing. But I've found that double thumbing is a lot less painful if you point your thumb into the strings rather than hit it from the side. You hit nail instead of flesh, so you may not dig the sound, but you don't wear blisters.
