Alright, I'm not persuing Double Thumping too far, but just a little real quick in a slap groove could be awesome and I'd like to be able to do. I can physically do it... but I don't know what to do with it. All the vids I've seen about double thumping, it's just showing how to do it... and running through a major scale... then the person usually stops or solos... it seems we are missing a step.
Anyone know any videos or anything that show step II essentially? What to do with double thumping and so on.

Try taking one of your slap grooves and play through it at tempo. Then, when you have a real good feel going, stop and slow it waaaaaaay down while THINKING about where you could put a double thump. Slowly work your double thump into the groove. When it feels good, speed it up a little.
Experimentation will serve you better than a video at this point. I am currently doing something like this with a lick I picked up from Victor Wooten on youtube. I am just slowly working it into my trick bag.
Good luck.

Have you ever played with a pick? Guitar, bass, it doesn't matter. Take your normal alternate picking patterns, but use the corner of your thumb instead. I actually strum the individual strings when I double thump... it's a wrist motion, not a thumb motion. Also, I've pointed this out here before, but I think it bears repeating that you want to try and position your hand so that you're giving the audience a thumb's up, instead of having your thumb pointed up the neck... makes a world of difference.
But, anyway, pick up a pick and do some alternate picking lines, and then try to do the same thing with the thumb instead of the pick. I don't necessarily think of double thumping as a slap technique, I just happen to be smacking the strings with my thumb. Worry about plucking later, or just wing it and see where the plucks feel the most natural in the stuff you're already playing. |

You don't do it with the part of the thumb you (or I atleast) normally slap with, the joint. Do you have to point your thumb in towards the bass more and do it with the end of your thumb?
thanks

thanks | That is the way that I do it. One groove that I have been using with DTing lately is:
g--------------------------------10-10
d----------------0h9-9h11-11---------
a-0h9-9h11-11------------------------
e---------------------------------------
All the none hammered notes on the A and D strings are DTed, the pattern is this, down thumb, hammer, up thumb, hammer, down thumb. The two notes on the G string are double popped.

If you were to put a dot at the top middle of my thumb and draw a diagonal line to the bottom corner of my thumb, that is the area that I do it with.
