Down strokes with a pick.....got a problem

I decided to go back to pick playing today and I'm normally quite good on my Shergold.

But with my Yamaha 5er I keep getting a ringing or buzzing noise when I downstroke the string. It usually happens between the 5th and 11th frets.

My action is set low on this bass cause I also slap (badly) on this bass so I'm thinking that that might be an issue.



Any ideas???

You may be picking in too much of a downwards direction or even too hard. Try picking more or less parallel to the body and see if that makes any difference.

Take a close look at the pick, too, and see how it's wearing. If you're scraping pick against the string windings at one side or another that'll show up on the pick (assuming you're using roundwounds).

Try picking less hard. You might just be hitting them too hard for the action you currently have the bass set at.
